April 6 - High Country Tour
This was a very pleasant 56 mile ride in Maui's high country. Note that I would make this an out and back instead of coming down Haleakala HW (SR37). Although the shoulder is wide, traffic is intense. The cross winds are severe and the sun is intense. I might even go straight through Makawao and drop through Haiku to the Hana Highway instead.
We got a nice view of clouds drifting across Haleakala on our way up to Makawao.
Here's a view of the valley. After all, Maui is the Valley Island.
This is the view of the climb heading up to Kula from Olinda.
Kula is very nice. Sunrise market is in Kula which is often a refueling point for Haleakala.
Here's a view SW towards Kaho'olawe as we're heading down towards the winery.
Here's grazing land close to the winery.
The road is smooth and windy rolling all the way to the winery.
The winery attracts some very strange characters.
